Pros and Cons of the Two Types of Wine Refrigerators

Collecting wine is just like any other collection hobby, however, it is not as simple as collecting coins or many other collections. Wines are considered perishable, so it is important that your collection is stored correctly. Proper wine storage is necessary to help the wines keep their taste and texture. Therefore, as a wine enthusiast, you require either a wine fridge or a wine refrigerator.

A durable wine fridge provides the optimum conditions like correct humidity and temperature levels to keep a wine tasting perfect. To age wines, or for long-term storage of wines, a wine fridge will help the wine develop its taste with its age. It also provides a vibration-free storage environment to stop wines from spoiling.

There are two types of wine refrigerators in the market today. One is the freestanding fridge and the other is the built-in wine fridge.

A freestanding wine refrigerator can stand alone while if you require one to be in a cabinet or under counter, the built-in one would be best suited.

A freestanding wine fridge allows you to store more bottles of wines because it is often larger than any other type and is therefore perfect for a large collection. Also, the freestanding type can still be used as a built-in refrigerator as it can be placed under a counter provided that there is adequate space for ventilation. The vents of this fridge are at the back.

On the other hand, the built-in wine fridge, is usually smaller and often custom made to perfectly fit in kitchens and bars. Some are even trimmed with steel rims to match in with the steel appliances in many kitchens. As it is built-in, it does not require much space in the kitchen and will also not require ventilation as the vents are at the front.

If you are looking at buying a wine refrigerator for your collection, then you should get yours from Relax At Home, the leader in home appliances like wine refrigerators, massage chairs, and more.

Questions to Ask if You're To Purchase a Wine Refrigerator

Every wine enthusiast aims to keep their wine collection in perfect condition, form and taste. They therefore need wine refrigerators or a wine fridge. Having such equipment will keep the wines from spoiling and being wasted. Considering that each bottle can be very costly, especially for vintage bottles, there is a need to find the perfect wine refrigerators or wine fridge.

If you are thinking about buying a wine fridge, then you have to think about the basic considerations so you don’t end up purchasing the incorrect one.

First, you obviously need to have an idea of how many bottles you need to store. From this, you can decide whether you will get a freestanding unit, which is best for a larger collection, or the built-in type, which is best suited to smaller wine collections.

Then, you need to consider if brand is important to you. There are a lot of suppliers and sellers of such wine refrigerators in the internet today. But you should consider buying from Relax At Home who have been around for a long time and provide quality appliances like wine fridge and massage chairs.

You also have to consider where you are planning to position it. If you buy the freestanding fridge, you need to have a bigger space to allow plenty of ventilation. But if you want the built in fridge, you will only need a space on the counter or in the kitchen cabinet.

Consider also the storage features of your wine fridge. There are some which offer convenient slide out shelving, others are fixed.  And since wine bottles don’t come in exactly the same sizes, you may need to consider if the fridge shelving is adjustable to allow storage of magnum style bottles or those that are slightly larger than the standard wine bottles.

Consider your budget. It is definitely cheaper to buy a wine refrigerator than to have a wine cellar. But if you are thinking about expanding your collection and you have plenty of room, you may need to go straight for a wine cellar as you don’t want to end up buying a wine fridge and then converting to a wine cellar within a limited time.

The History and Development of Massage

If you enjoy a massage, then you should also be familiar with its history. Massage basically means “the manipulation of deeper and superficial layers of connective tissue and muscle to enhance body function”. It is performed by applying pressure, vibration, tension, squeezing of other actions.

The word massage had been influenced by the French “friction of kneading”, the Arabic massage named “massa” which literally meant to touch, feel or handle, and from a Greek verb referring to “handle, touch, to work with the hands, to knead dough”.

MASSAGE is considered to be beneficial to the human body as it eliminates pain, reduces emotional conditions such as anxiousness and depression, lowers blood pressure and heart rate. It is also known to aid in the release of endorphins and serotonin and prevent the growth of fibroids and scar tissue.

With the development of technology and the hectic lifestyle of people, the very first massage chair was invented in 1962. It was designed and made in Japan to give comfort, relief and relaxation and mimic the movements and strokes of a professional masseuse. The finest massage chair is the obvious convenient solution for immediate relief of aches and pains without having to make appointments, step out of the house and paying a masseuse for each visit.  Today, the Japanese massage chairs are still leading the way in the massage chair industry.

A massage chair in Perth that can be purchased from Relax At Home are an example of a durable and built-to-last massage chair.

Massage Chair As a Good Christmas Gift

With the yuletide season fast approaching, there’s no better time to think of a good Christmas gift whether for yourself or for others.

And in today’s fast-paced and stressful lifestyle, the kneading, rolling and stretching automated actions of a good massage chair like the  massage chair in Perth are a good alternative to the traditional massage, where time and financial constraints are of major concern.

A massage chair, which is an electronic chair that is designed to provide relaxation in the form of massages, is a great Christmas gift idea. You do not only get a useful investment but you also get a beneficial and convenient one for relieving your body from accumulated stress and tension brought about by the demands of today's stressful hectic world.

Aside from being a useful and beneficial gift idea, massage chairs can also provide you the health benefits of:

Relieving stress. The kneading, stretching and rolling vibrations of the chair have been proven to stimulate the release of the body's feel-good endorphins which result in reduced levels of stress and pain. Also, according to a review of more than a dozen massage studies, the massaging actions of the massage chairs are known to lower cortisol levels by up to 53%. Cortisol is a type of hormone secreted into the bloodstream termed as “the stress hormone” which has been shown to be responsible for several stress-related changes in the body.

Aids in proper blood circulation. The compression air actions of a massage chair, along with the chair’s embedded heaters which produce heat, is known to help dilate the blood vessels throughout your body; thus, increasing circulation of your blood through the body.

Improves posture. Ergonomically designed, massage chairs are engineered to help maintain the natural S-Curve of your spine along the neck, upper & lower back; thus, improving your posture.

Wine Storage: What You Need To Know

Nowadays, more and more people have come to appreciate wines. Pairing wines with food is now becoming increasingly popular. An increasing number of people are now collecting wines not just to appreciate them and pair them with foods but also as an investment.

As wines are perishable and very sensitive to its environment, it is very important to store wine in its optimum condition in a proper storage facility like a wine cooler refrigerator or wine cellar.

And just as enjoying wine is a multi-sensory experience; involving taste, smell, color and feel as you partake in that expensive French Bordeaux; storing wines have multiple aspects to consider, ensuring that your wine will evolve to its full potential instead of turning to vinegar by the time you get around to opening it!

The essence of proper wine storage is to keep the wines in its optimal conditions and when properly managed, there’s no better feeling than turning your young, vibrant wine into a mature classic for you to enjoy.

Here are some POINTERS for Wine Collectors or those who are just starting out, about the basics you should know about wine storage:

Temperature

There are many  great wine collections that have been damaged by instability in temperature and moisture. Of all the storage factors that will adversely affect your wine, fluctuating temperature is the most damaging. The ideal temperature range is between 45° F and 65° F, with optimal wine storage right around 55°F.

For storing red wines, 50-55ºF or 10-16ºC while for white wines, they can be stored at lower ranges at 45ºF. So, make sure to have consistent temperatures, as dramatic fluctuations in temperature will damage the wine and the cork.

High temperature (>65ºF) can cause the wine to age prematurely; thus, losing its flavor and balance. When chilled too cold, the wine freezes and expands, pushing out and damaging the cork, which will allow more oxygen to be exposed to the wine, reducing the wine's delicate but complex flavor and aromas.

Proper Lighting

Wines when exposed to strong, direct sunlight or incandescent light can have an adverse reaction, negatively affecting the flavor of the wine significantly and resulting in premature aging or even spoilage. This is because the sun’s UV rays can degrade and prematurely age wine. That’s why wine bottles and most wine coolers are being tinted with dark colored glass, most with UV filters incorporated, to allow very little light to get to the wine.

But, take note that this does not necessarily offer full UV protection. So, store your wines in dark, cellar-like conditions like in wine cellars, or wine refrigerator or cooler.

Position of Wine Bottles in the Storage

Remember to always keep your wine either horizontally, at a 45º angle with the cork facing down or somewhere in between. Storing in this position will keep the wine in constant contact with the cork ensuring the cork will stay moist and not dry out. Thereby, this will minimize the probability of the cork cracking or shrinking and enabling air into the bottle, which will oxidize the wine and spoil the wine’s aromas, flavors and color.

How to Pick the Right Wine Storage for your Wine

Depending on the size of your collection, you can store your wine in a wine refrigerator, turn your basement / spare room into a wine cellar, or buy other wine cooler options. No matter what your choice is, just be sure to set and monitor the temperature, humidity, and aging period.

Humidity

The wine’s ideal humidity level is between 60% - 70%. A higher humidity level tends to create mildew or mold on the cork as well as spot and damaged your labels, negatively affecting the market value of fine wine.

On the other hand, low humidity can cause corks to dry out and crack, allowing more air into the bottle, leading to rapid spoilage. So, make sure to maintain humidity level range to keep the corks from drying out while preventing the formation of unwanted mold.

Forced-Air and Cold-Wall Cooling Systems for Wines

Do you know that your wine collection could also be stored in a wine cabinet, aside from wine cooler refrigerators?

A Wine Cabinet is not a Wine Fridge, but it is similar to a mini bar that is climate-controlled. It is designed not only to replicate the conditions found in the best natural underground wine cellars, without the excavation costs, but it is also designed to blend in with other formal furniture.

It can be made of either durable melamine laminates or hand-crafted wooden exteriors, Adjustable Humidity Control, High Performance Air Filtration System, Top or Rear-Vent Exhaust, Electronic Thermostat, and Foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation. It can also be made of either forced air or cold wall cooling systems. By controlling humidity, temperature, UV light and ventilation and limiting damaging vibrations as well, you are ensuring, thereby, the maintenance of your wine's quality as well as ensuring your wines mature under optimal conditions and are always served intact.

Two Types of Compressor-Based Cooling Systems Used in Wine Cabinets and Cellars

Forced-air Cooling Systems

By far the most common type of cooling system, the Forced-air cooling systems are typically self-enclosed units mounted at the top of the wine cabinet or cellar. They make use of powerful fans to blow air across cold surfaces, called evaporator coils, and into the wine cooler cabinet. These units are easy to remove, repair and/or replace because they are entirely self-enclosed. One more advantage is these units give more even temperatures and less stratification inside the wine cabinet or cellar.

But, these systems are said to be slightly louder than cold-wall cooling systems when the fans are “on”. Unfortunately, the fans are necessary in creating and maintaining even temperatures throughout the cabinet or cellar.

Cold-wall Cooling Systems

On the other hand, these systems are typically fully-integrated into the construction of the wine cabinets, having compressors placed at the bottom of the cabinet, and evaporator coils running up and down the rear of the cabinet.

However, cold-wall systems sometimes tend to have a difficulty in maintaining even temperatures throughout the cabinet. It also tends to strip too much moisture and humidity from the air inside the cabinet. Also, another disadvantage, cold-wall systems is difficult to replace and expensive to repair as they are integrated into the walls of the wine cabinet.

Guide to a Proper Wine Cellar Lighting

The lighting option of your wine cellar,  aside from humidity, vibration and temperature, is one of the most important that will determine the quality of your cellar condition as well as your wine collection, either hindering or helping achieve your desired result.

Not only does your wine’s ability to age well, bringing out its best bouquet or aromas, characteristics, flavors, and balance, depend on your management techniques of these factors, but also does your wine’s value, visual appeal and the marketability.

Improper lighting is known to have an adverse effect on the room temperature and consequently on the wine's quality and aging process, promoting premature aging of wine. It can also ruin wine labels as well as detract from the presentation of the wine bottles and the aesthetic of ornamental wine racks.

It is necessary to have a good light in order to stack and organize the wines properly, select the bottles you need, read labels properly and find your way through the wine storage. For commercial purposes, a proper lighting system will enable you to optimally showcase your wine collection to your prospective customers, enhancing the wines’ visual appeal and the marketability of your product.

That’s why the selection of wine cellar lighting must be done with utmost care. So, here are some tips on how you can manage wine cellar lighting well and avoid spoiling/destroying the quality of your wine collection.

To be functional and effective, make sure that your cellar lighting only emits as little heat as possible, while still adequately lighting the space. You can do this by making use of incandescent bulbs or other products which have UV protective coating as they produce less UV lights over fluorescent lights and prevent harmful UV damage to your wine.

You could also use a recessed halogen lighting system with a frosted, tempered glass lens. This can add a dramatic flair to your wine cellar. Use a system with a 12V/20W bulb and a polished aluminum reflector.

Also another ideal wine cellar light is the phantom linear strips. This type of lights can be mounted in many different positions that produce both direct and indirect cove lighting effects such as on the rear interior of the doorway of the wine cellar. From the concealed strips, light then shines back into the room, creating a luminance that appears to grow out of the corridor and intensify as it reaches the bottles. Also, this type of light can function as the main light source in smaller wine cellars and in bigger cellars can be used to make ambient wine cellar lighting that adds an essential element to romance, mystique, and relaxation.

Overall, you must pay close attention to the lighting of your cellar or even your wine fridges. Too much light can actually cause heat, which can stimulate your wine's stable organic compounds thus damaging your wine.

Taking Care of Your Wines and Your Cellar

In collecting wine, no matter what your motive is, either for pleasure or profit, the crucial aspect to consider is the storage of your wine anthology.

Whether your collection includes the world's most expensive wine for 2012, Penfolds’ 2004 Block 42 housed in 750-ml glass ampoules and priced at $168,000, or just wines from your favorite wine club, your wine collection needs to be protected not only to preserve your investment, no matter what the value, but also to ensure quality.

In wine collecting, you should strive to maintain a balance between building or having the most ideal wine storage such as wine fridge and maintaining not only your collection but also your wine cellar at best condition by taking care of them both every so often.

Not only will the wine diminish in quality or will not last at all, if not cared for, but so will your wine cooler or cellar. Even the most stately and durable wine cellars cannot ward off the termites, scorpions, ants, and other pests that tend to infest cellars if conditions that allow them to thrive exist.

So here are some pointers or good ways on how you can take good care of your wines and wine cellar.

  • Maintain proper cellar lighting. Your collection's exposure to light should be limited. It is best to store wine in a dark room. Do not use fluorescent light as this can be harmful. You can use incandescent bulbs which may be a bit safer than fluorescent bulbs, as they only emit very small amounts of ultraviolet light.
  • Keep a stable environment for your wines. Vibration is harmful to wine, as it could possibly disturb the sediment in older wines and keep them from settling, potentially making them unpleasantly gritty. Also, keep the bottles in a horizontal position.
  • Have a backup power supply. A sustained power outage could put your wine collection at risk. To protect your investment, try to have a permanent back-up generator.
  • Don't let moisture in your cellar. This holds true especially for a wine cellar that is constructed mostly out of wood materials. This is because the cellulose content in the wood in your wine cellar is the food of termites and other pests. And combined with moisture, this will now create the perfect environment for these termites and other similar pests to thrive.
  • Clean the wine cooling unit as well as the humidifier often. Check and clean your wine cooling units from time to time to ensure that they are in proper working condition. Also make sure that the unit is free from moisture as moisture can lead to the eventual rusting of your unit as well as be another major source of a termite attack. Also, ensure that your humidifiers should be cleaned out thoroughly and remove the dirt and other foreign elements before replacing them with clean water every day or every other day.
  • Insure wine collection if available. Make sure to consider insuring your collection separately as wine collections increase in value.

Top 5 Guidelines for Designing a Wine Cellar

Collecting wine is not only about purchasing the best wine anthology but the crucial aspect to consider is the storage of the collection.

Aside from being perishable, wine is a sensitive responsive sentient-like entity. It goes through stages of infancy, maturity and old age and is strongly affected by environmental factors.

Not all wines are created equal. Some wines reach maturity very quickly while others get better and mature to their best taste with age. So ideally, wines should be cared for properly in a cool, damp storage area that is perfect for the aging of expensive wines, maximizing on the life, flavor, aroma and palatability of the wine.

Wine cellars are the perfect way to store all types of wine, enabling you the benefit of having control on the three important factors necessary for optimal storage such as the aging, temperature and humidity, that, when properly done, will let your wine to evolve to its full potential.

Intended to protect the wine, a wine cellar cannot only let you enjoy wine at the perfect temperature, with the perfect taste, aroma and flavor but also it can benefit you by having a tidy and stylish storage facility as well.

In designing you wine cellar, make sure it suits your space and your lifestyle.

Here are some Ideas and Guidelines to achieve a better looking and functional cellar.

1.   Know first where the cellar will be located including its dimension

Determine exactly where in your house is the ideal location to put your wine cellar. If you have the luxury of starting from scratch, choose a space that is not exposed directly to the sun or near the center part of your home. Make sure also to choose a space or room that has a space next to it that can handle the exhaust from the cooling unit. This means that the adjacent space should be large enough to dissipate the warm air that is discharged, and preferably has a source of fresh air.

Then, determine the planned finished dimensions of your wine room. Include the ceiling height and location of your wine cooling system and wine cellar door. Also, make an estimate of the number of bottles that you would like your wine cellar to hold.

2.   Prepare the best racking elements and fridges

Decide on the racking elements and features you want in your wine cellar. Wine racks can be made of metal or wood. Choosing wine racks, and the wine storage is primarily a matter of personal taste. Metal racks tend to be more flamboyant and stylish while the wood racks are oftentimes considered more classic and traditional in style. Though both kinds of rack are attractive to look at, it may be preferable to select racks that match the rest of the chosen wine storage solution. These final choices will be influenced to a certain degree by whether or not you intend to show off your wine cellar to friends and colleagues. If it is, then you need your wine cellars and elements to appear more coordinated and stylish. Don’t forget that racks should store the bottles on their sides and wooden racks are better in that they don’t permit ‘cold spots’ on your bottles.

3.   Plan a design that will compliment your house

Make sure that your cellar design is coordinated and suitable to your house. Your design should be stylish and elegant, adding beauty to your house. You can stamp your own personal touch in designing by choosing the perfect colors, accents and styles to make the cellar your own and to complement your house.

4.   Invest on the best wall and floor insulation

The decor theme of your cellar will determine the interior wall and ceiling design. The best choice is rot and mildew resistant walls such as drywall, green board or Redwood. Though the most resistant to moisture and mold; green board is the more expensive than standard drywall. You can also use good quality paint, like latex as will not only hold up through the years and not require the owner to repaint the walls; it can also be applied to create an "aged" effect.

Similarly with wall coverings, choose also flooring that match the overall decor colors of your wine cellar. The most commonly used types of flooring are slate, tile, marble, and vinyl. You can also use travertine with a few decorative tiles in the center. Don’t place carpet, as mold and mildew will show up very quickly in the cool, damp climate conditions of a cellar.

5.   Plan on a budget

Building a wine cellar could be expensive, so make sure to determine how much you’re willing to cash out.

There is also one other alternative to a traditional wine cellar that exists for those who want to protect their wines, but don't want to invest in the more expensive cellars or simply don’t have the space, and this is a wine fridge.

Review on Different Wine Fridges for Australians

If you have a wine collection that you don't want to ruin but you don’t have the space or the money to build your own wine cellar, it is worthwhile to invest in a wine fridge as an alternative.

Designed to create the best long-term environment for storing wines, wine fridge or also known as wine chiller is intended to store dozens of bottles at selected temperatures.

Wine fridges are most useful for those who don't have a wine cellar, as these larger refrigerator style units can replicate temperature and humidity conditions that are ideal in storing wines. Wines are perishable beverages and are easily influenced by environment stresses, such as temperature change, sunlight, dryness and vibrations. Thus, it will enable fine wines to mature at a steady rate and also prevent them from spoiling.

Most units will enable you to choose their ideal temperature of wine and there are even some units that have options that will enable you to control two separate areas for different wines. There are also some units that are controlled by a thermostat.

Wine Fridges vary in STYLE and FEATURES. Here are some of them:

Dual Zone Wine Fridge (270 L and 450 L)

This type of wine refrigerator features two temperature compartments, which could create the ideal storage environment for both red and white wines. Any dual zone unit is primarily intended to have a section designated for service temperature. Most times, a dual zone wine chiller is made for white wine service (41-50 degrees), but there are certain units that can have a section for red wine service (57-65 degrees).  There are also those which you can use half for storage of all wines and the other half for service of usually whites. These units may come from 115 bottle capacity (based on 750ml bottles) for 270L fridge to up to 160 Bottles for 450L fridge.

Single Zone Wine Fridge (270 L and 450 L)

This type of wine refrigerator have only one temp unit compartment. Similar with the dual zone, these units also come in bottle capacity of 115 (based on 750ml bottles) for 270L fridge to up to 160 Bottles for 450L fridge. This type of fridge is ideal for those who are laying wines down for the long haul and aren’t really looking to utilize a service option.

70 L Wine Fridge

This type of wine refrigerator has up to a 28-bottle capacity based on 750ml bottles. This unit has only one temperature compartment.

How Do Massage Chairs Relieve Back Pain?

Back pain is one of the most common and most frequent complaints why people go to the doctor or miss work.

Back pain can affect people of any age, but it is significantly more common among adults aged between 35 and 55 years. There are several factors that increase your risk of developing back pain. These include obesity, older age, smoking, being female, pregnancy, anxiety, depression, a sedentary lifestyle, a mentally stressful job and physically strenuous work.

According to some studies, it suggests that as many as 85% of back pain cases have no physical cause or the mechanisms by which these conditions might cause pain are not known.

There are also some studies that indicate that psychosocial factors such as on-the-job stress and dysfunctional family relationships may more closely have an association with back pain than structural abnormalities examined in x-rays and other medical imaging scans.

On the bright side, back pain does not usually require immediate medical intervention. There are some measures or alternative home treatment available that you can take to prevent or ease symptoms of most back pain episodes. And one of these well-known alternatives is a massage.

In fact, it is well-known that a good massage can do wonders not only for relieving tension but also for back pain.

However, a therapeutic massage is not always convenient or available and if done daily could be costly in the long run. Thus, while getting a massage from a licensed massage therapist is still best, there is now a much better substitute available in terms of convenience, cost-effectiveness, portability and efficiency and privacy yet still providing the benefits of the human touch, the massage chairs.

Through the study of the human body and analysis of feedback, massage chairs are designed to provide different types of massage strokes.

Typically, three basic types of massage are available in these chairs. These include the shiatsu massage, which makes use of a tapping and kneading method along the body’s acupressure points; the Swedish massage, which uses a longer stroke instead of tapping, but includes squeezing and kneading, with an addition of heat; and the Hawaiian massage, which is the gentlest that uses light tapping, sway, and stroking.

The manipulating, rubbing, and stroking of muscles in a rhythm of a massage chair are known to be largely responsible for better circulation. With better blood flow, it will generate more oxygen and nutrients that have a key role in aiding muscles to remove waste products like lactic acid that may collect in muscles from spasms resulting in pain. Thus, these chairs cannot only aid to your muscle spasm but also eases pain and tension on your muscles.

Comprehensive research has demonstrated that using a massage chair like a massage chair in Sydney on a regular basis will improve venous and lymphatic flow thus improving blood circulation, decrease and ease body tensions, ease body aches and pains, relieve mental stress, reduce high blood pressure, improves flexibility, and provide you a full and relaxing body massage whenever you feel you it is necessary.

Guide on Choosing Your Wine Cooler

Another alternative for wine cellar as a means for properly storing your wine collection is a wine cooler.

Also known as a wine chiller, wine coolers are refrigeration-based units that are installed on either under or over a counter top or by itself  as a stand-alone unit in a bar area or wine cellar of a home.

how to select your wine cooler

Wine Coolers are used to keep the wines served in the correct temperature, either chilled or cooled. These coolers come in two styles, namely: tabletop units and refrigerator style units.

Two Styles of Wine Coolers

1.   Table Top Units

These are coolers that are small in size, used to chill a single wine bottle rapidly. This type of unit is particularly good for those types of wines that must be served chilled, like white, sparkling, and rose.

2. Refrigerator Style Units

On the other hand, refrigerator style units are a type of cooler unit that has the capacity to store over a dozen wine bottles at selected temperatures. As it can replicate temperature and humidity levels, this type of cooler can also be used in place of a cellar.

So, if you’re interested in buying a wine chiller, here is how to choose one that is appropriate for your needs:

Know the Types of Wines you'll place in the Cooler

List down the types of wines that you plan to store in the wine cooler. This is done due to the fact that each different kind of wine has its own optimum temperature guidelines and recommendations. There are coolers that may only be suitable for one type and may have one temperature regulation while there are also others that may have a more sophisticated system where different compartments can house different beverage varieties.

Size and Capacity of the Wine Cooler

Wine coolers are available in a variety of sizes, ranging from a few wine bottles to 25 all the way up to hundreds of bottles. If at any given time, you think that only a few bottles of wine will be kept in the wine cooler, then perhaps it would be more appropriate to choose a cooler of smaller size. However, if you only have a limited amount of wine stored at room temperature but need a very large space to house wines that need to be refrigerated, it would be appropriate to choose a larger wine cooler.

Check for the Coolers' Temperature Controls

Make sure that the unit you choose will enable you to regulate the temperature. This is because too low or too high can damage the wine. Take note that serving wines must be kept in a temperature of 50°F for light-bodied white wines and 68°F for full-bodied red wines.

See the Temperature and Humidity Settings

There are some coolers that enable you to store wines by providing dual temperature zones. Make sure that temperature selection should vary from 38°F to about 65°F. With this wide temperature range, it will allow you to either store your wines or keep them in serving condition. On the other hand, make sure also that the cooler must be able to maintain the humidity level of 80%, while keeping the air circulating. This is to prevent the growth of mildew and mold. Check also the humidity, making sure that it can keep the cork moist.

Look for Special FEATURES like Glass Fronts, Stainless Steel Trim and Auto Defrost Facility

Make sure to also look for energy efficient models as well as specialized models that have tinting to prevent sunlight and UV rays from entering and destroying the wine inside.

Consider your Budget

You must always factored into your buying, your budget. Make sure to take a note of it when shopping. And as such check each model for the specific desires and requirements, along with your budget.

A Buyer's Guide for Massage Chair

In today’s fast-paced world where people are placed in undue performance pressure that usually results to stress not only of the body but also of the mind, as well in time constraints, more and more people are turning to and buying a massage chair as a means for getting pain relief and relaxation as well as a replacement of human massage therapists.

Nowadays, there are now a large number of massaging chairs available, that vary enormously in price, style and intensity, from cheap "vibrate only" chairs to full intensity Shiatsu models for people who need as close to a real invigorating massage as possible.

With the massage chairs, like those massage chairs in Perth, portability, convenience, accessibility and privacy (as there is no need anymore to disrobe to receive a chair massage), are covered by chair massage now known to be often performed in settings such as corporate offices, Conferences and Trainings and other Corporate Wellness Events.

So, if you are planning to buy a massage chair, do consider these following factors:
  • The Comfort of a Massage Chair. You can test this by sitting down on the chair and getting a feel of it. There are some chairs that may have a shape or contour that better fits a particular person's shape or need.
  • Strength of Massage. Test the intensity of the massage and ensure it's appropriate. If you want a more vigorous massage, you should look for a chair that provides highly protruded components and strong movements. However, if you want a less intense, more point-specific massage, then you may prefer a massage chair with small rollers and nodes and softer movements.
  • Number of Massage Chair Rollers. It is customary for better massage chairs to have four rollers, although there are some lower-end chairs that offer as few as two. There are also some chairs that offer more than four rollers.
  • Adjustability of the Chair. Make sure to test or experiment with the preset programs. There are some massage chairs that may have a preset that is specific to a problem area in the back while there are other chairs that may offer greater variability. It may be more beneficial when purchasing a single chair for multiple users and to choose to buy a massage chair with a large range of adjustability.
  • Accessories and Special Features. There are certain massage chairs that have special features such as a separate ottoman or a leg-rest that extends in and out of the chair. Take note that there are some positions that may be more comfortable for certain back conditions. For example, sitting in a reclining position with the legs elevated may be more comfortable for some people with spinal stenosis. There are also several chairs that even have a leg-rest that has its own massage or vibration capabilities.
  • Controls. Massages chairs have a remote controller that may be wired or wireless. Take note that most wired and wireless remotes are usually at an extra cost. There are also some chairs that offer a LCD screen to visually let you know where and how the massage is working.
  • Pricing. Massage chairs are quite expensive. Their prices vary from under $1000 to over $4000. Models that are about $1000 tend to have very limited massage functions and may have weaker frames, fabric and usually a very limited warranty. Take note that the more expensive the chairs are, the more advanced their features become.
  • Warranty. Make sure to look at the warranty offered by your manufacturer. Make sure to review them. Take note that only makers of chairs with excellent warranties should be trusted with such an important purchase.

The Importance of Temperature in Wine Storage

Every wine lover and connoisseur or even wine novices should know that owning a wine cellar or its alternative, a wine cooler, is a worthwhile investment.

For centuries, aging wine is an art form that wine lovers and connoisseurs have enjoyed. And wine cellars are the ideal place for storing and protecting your wines, though you can also use the alternative much smaller wine refrigerators.

Wines are perishable, so when exposed to heat, light, vibration or fluctuations in temperature and humidity, all types of wine can quickly deteriorate and spoil. However, when they are properly stored, their quality can be preserved and in some cases their aroma, flavor, and complexity can also be improved as they age.

No better feeling can compare to turning a young, vibrant wine into a mature classic for you to enjoy. Keeping your wine healthy will ultimately determine the quality of your wines and your future satisfaction and enjoyment. So, the right conditions are necessary for storing your wine properly, and it's especially important when keeping fine wine.

Just as enjoying wine is a multi-sensory experience, storing wine also entails multiple aspects, enabling your wine to evolve to its full potential.

Of all the storage factors that will adversely affect your wine, fluctuating temperature is the most damaging. Therefore, your number one priority should be avoiding this condition.

Wines exposed to too high a temperature (in excess of 77 °F (25 °C)) may become spoilt or "cooked" and develop off flavors that taste raisiny or stewed.

On the other hand, wines exposed to temperatures that are too cold can freeze and expand, causing the cork to be pushed out; thus, enabling the wine to be exposed to more oxygen. Any air that enters the bottle will react chemically with the wine and, in turn, prematurely ages wine.

Wines that ages prematurely or that are exposed to excessive heat, will frequently produce a brownish tinge and unintended, unpleasant off-flavors and will seldom reach its potential quality.

Generally, a wine has a greater potential to develop complexity and a more aromatic bouquet if it is allowed to age or mature slowly in a relatively cool environment over an appropriate period of time. This brings about flavors and nuances that can only evolve with proper maturation.

Scientists say this happens when wine is stored at its ideal temperature of between 55ºF (13ºC) and 58ºF (15ºC), with slightly lower temperatures for sparkling and white wines. This temperature is known to be the best to encourage a slow mellowing of the wine as at these ideal temperatures, the aging is complex and requires no additional attention as it will go about doing its own thing in a proper and desired manner.

Along with the ideal temperature, wines should be store in an appropriate amount of humidity as this critical to preventing the corks from drying out.

Dry corks causes wine to leak through and around the cork, and enabling air to enter the bottle. However, too much humidity will bring on the development of mold and will damage the labels, negatively affecting the market value of fine wine.

So, maintaining humidity levels in the range between 60% and 75% should keep the corks from drying out while preventing the formation of unwanted mold.

Maintaining this type of relative dampness will also aid in keeping the corks in shape. Storing the bottles horizontally will also help in keeping the corks well hydrated and expanded in perfect shape.

Wines should also be stored in dark places as direct sunlight or ultraviolet light will deteriorate the quality of the wine.

Knowing About Zero Gravity Massage Chair

Nowadays, with not enough time and for convenience and cost-effectiveness, massage chairs are now becoming the trend in experiencing the relaxing and stress and pain reduction effects of massage therapy at the convenience of one’s home.

Massage chairs come in several different types and zero gravity massage chair represents one of the most groundbreaking achievements in a massage chair’s ergonomic design.

Zero Gravity Massage Chair makes use of a state of the art technology originally designed by NASA to help them launch astronauts into space.
This chair is called zero gravity as the chair is designed to enable you to adjust the recline from upright to fully reclined configuration or called the zero gravity position that mimics the ideal posture astronauts take during liftoff on space missions.

This zero gravity or reclined position is utilized by astronauts so their bodies can deal with the immense amounts of strain or stress on the human body brought about by the intense and sudden increases in gravity or G-forces involved in a space launch while escaping the Earth's gravitational pull. By assuming this ideal recline position, the stresses of takeoff is distributed across their bodies in a safe way.

So in the same way, zero gravity massage chairs are designed to assume the same zero gravity or reclined position to help distribute a user's weight across the chair. Therefore, instead of all of your body's weight being concentrated on your spine, it becomes spread across your entire back, reducing stress and pressure on your entire body so effectively that you’ll be experiencing a relaxing feeling of being almost virtually weightless as a result.

    What are its Special Features?

Massaging chairs, aside from enabling you to assume a reclining position, are highly adjustable that it can be adjusted carefully to each individual person to achieve the best feeling and avoid discomfort.

These zero gravity chairs also have thumb-sized vibrating rollers embedded in the chair that replicates the hands of professional massage therapists to give you a heavenly massage experience.

These chairs may also come with a built in neck massager, leg massagers, and other massagers made for certain body areas. And along with the chair’s unique stiffness detection system, these are then used to give you a massage on the same level as one you would receive in a spa. A photo sensory gauge is integrated into the stiffness detection system that can figure out muscle stiffness by measuring pulse, perspiration, and other galvanic skin responses.

These chairs may also feature a wide range of different time, speed, and intensity settings adjustable by remote.

What are its Benefits to A Person's Health?

The zero gravity design of these massaging chairs has many different health benefits.

A zero gravity chair enables the body to be placed in a zero gravity position where there is the least amount of stress and pressure on your spine or other back muscles as a result of raising the feet above the head, enabling you for a deeper, more intense massage experience. This position will also get you a significant amount of pain relief.

Zero gravity chairs, in view of its reclining position which raises you legs and other areas of your body above your heart and coupled with the release of tension from your muscles, can also lower blood pressure and increase blood flow. As the position you assumed in the chair can open up your chest in a certain way that can actually increase your lung capacity.

These chairs such as a massage chair in Melbourne also have built-in massage elements, giving you the health benefits of a back massage as well.

Choosing Where to Store your Wine at its Best?

Whatever level of expertise you have, be a wine novice or wine connoisseur, where you choose to store your wine is an important decision which will directly impact the quality of your wine, either greatly enhancing or hindering your future enjoyment of your preciously packaged bottle.

So your abode does not have a large basement storage facility to house your collection. But by selecting a proper storage unit and an efficient layout, you may be surprised at the capacity of your current space at home.

wine chiller, wine cellars, wine fridge

Depending on the size of your collection, a wide variety of units is available to place your wine in should you not have the traditional type of area available. You can buy a wine fridge or wine chiller or coolers, turn your basement / spare room into a wine cellar, or rent a wine storage facility such as a temperature controlled wine warehouse.

Wine cellars, a room, underground basement or in some cases cabinet or closet, are the perfect way to store and protect all types of wine, enabling you to enjoy wine at the perfect temperature and keep the wine on its highest quality with the perfect taste and flavor. A good wine cellar can keep the wine at a moderately low temperature, with a decent amount of humidity and in relative darkness, it can also protect your wine against any drastic fluctuations in temperature or humidity, which can damage the wine very quickly. In addition, a good wine cellar can provide you the benefit of having a tidy and stylish storage facility.

    Two Types of Wine Cellars

Wine cellars come in 2 types: free-standing wine cellars and built-in wine cellars. Free standing wine cellars also known as wine cabinets are designed to accommodate larger collections than most wine refrigerators and also are oftentimes elegantly styled to be prominently display in your home. On the other hand, built-in wine cellars produce the perfect environment for not just keeping wine but for aging it to its full potential. They can also protect your wine from all external elements and are designed to make sure that the cellar is always in perfect temperature and humidity.

Wine chiller refrigerators / wine cooler refrigerators offer an alternative to wine cellars. Available in capacities ranging from small 16-bottle units to furniture pieces that can contain 400 bottles; a wine fridge can generally keep the perfect temperature for drinking as well as keep the good humidity levels low, usually under 50% or maintained, as well.

On the other hand, wine racks, ranging from the sleek and stylish small metal wine racks to the elaborate and elegant redwood, feature adjustable temperature interfaces, two chambers for red and white wines, and materials which protect the wine from the sun and ambient environment.

Planning to Build your Own Wine Cellar at Home?

For any wine lover, a wine cellar is a valuable addition to the home. It's a perfect way to store and protect all types of wine for a prolonged period of time.

Whether you’re collecting wines on a large scale or whether you simply like to keep a number of your favorite wines at hand for yours and your friends’ enjoyment, a wine cellar can ensure that you get to enjoy your wine at its very best. This is because these cellars protect wines from potentially harmful external influences, providing darkness and constant, regulated temperatures that are perfect for your wines. When properly stored, wines not only retain and maintain their quality but many even actually improve in taste, aroma, flavor, and complexity as they mature. An alternative to wine cellars are wine refrigerators.

Things to Consider in Building a Wine Cellar

    Location

In building a wine cellar, one thing to consider is where you are going to build it. The location that you choose will have a future impact on the cost of the maintenance of your cellar. It is recommended to place your cellar in the coolest and most humid place in your home. The closer you are to the optimal storage temperature of 55°-58° F and 55-75% humidity that your wine will need, the smaller size of the cooling unit you will need and the lower the overall cost will be.

    For Newly Constructed Wine Cellar

If your cellar is a newly constructed, you have to stud the space to frame out your wine cellar. To begin, seal the concrete foundation walls prior to installing studs. If you are using spray foam, you can use either 2x4 or 2x6 constructions. The 2x6 construction can be used when you need to increase the insulation value for you to lessen the cooling unit size and energy consumption. Make sure to obtain a permit and comply all local, state, and national building codes when building your own wine cellar.

    Building a Soffit

If you’re building a soffit to cover ducting, piping, or other obstructions, make sure that you install the lighting far enough away from the soffit so that it does not interfere with the finished racking and/or ducting depth, including depth of crown molding. A rule of thumb is to leave a 1” gap from the front of the crown molding to the closest edge of the ring on the can light. Make sure also to make use of IC can lights so you can insulate around them.

    Installing a Self-contained Cooling Unit

If you’re installing a self-contained cooling unit, first make a hole in the wall adequately sized for the unit and also run an electrical outlet near the space. This may need to be on the inside or outside of the unit based on the unit you decide to purchase. You would also need a drain line, so you'll need to allow for a location for a condensate drain. Ensure also to allow for a 110V electrical outlet for a humidifier in the wine cellar as these units do not have the ability to add humidity to a wine cellar.

In installing insulation and vapor barrier, spray foam is recommended. Though it is normally more expensive, but spray foam will prevent the possibility of a puncture mark in your vapor barrier caused by someone inserting screws, running wire, plumbing, etc. into or through the wall from outside the wine cellar. Make sure to leave no air gaps between the insulation and drywall.

After installing the vapor barrier, put insulation in the stud and joist cavities. You can use fiberglass batts. Make sure that the entire cavity must be “fluffed” with insulation leaving no air filled cavities.

    Placing Electrical Outlet

Make sure to place them in the dead spaces at the corners where your racks come together. Ensure also to follow your local building code for outlet placement and that remember they can supersede any recommendations made for outlet placement in your cellar.

    Covering the Walls and Ceiling

Make sure to use material that is resistant to the high humidity conditions that will be present in your cellar. The most common choice for wall and ceiling coverings is water resistant drywall (commonly referred to as green board). Make sure to screw the green board into the walls and ceiling of your wine cellar. Make use of fire rated penetration sealant to seal around all penetrations on both sides of wine cellar.

    Painting

After covering the walls, next is paint the dry wall. Start with a good primer on the drywall and then make use of water based exterior grade paint. Make sure that the drywall is covered all the way to the floor.

    Installing a Wine Cellar Door

Make sure to install an exterior grade door sealed on three sides with weather-stripping and the bottom with a threshold and door sweep. If you’re planning to use a glass door, you will need to thermopane it to allow for insulation properties and to ensure it does not condensate on the glass due to the temperature differential.
If you are planning to use can lighting in a wine cellar, then make sure to use thermally fused can lights, also referred to as IC rated cans.

This is How Massage Chairs Work

Nowadays, with stress and tension brought about by the high demands of our hi-tech world exerting both physical and mental strain on our bodies, more and more people are turning to massage chairs as an alternative to traditional massage.

    how massage chairs work

The idea behind a massage chair involves internal electronic motors and gears, or rollers or vibration pads working and acting together or individually on the body in a 3-dimensional fashion with pressure (whether structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving), tension, motion, or vibration that targets superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, mimicking the various massage strokes or techniques used by human massage therapists to enhance function, aid in the healing process, and promote relaxation and well-being.

Simulate the way professional therapists use their fingers, thumbs and palms in applying tension and pain relieving therapy, chairs like massage chair in Melbourne uses these different massage strokes such as:

    Kneading

The kneading stroke is generated when the rollers move in a small, circular pattern which can be usually felt on both sides of spine simultaneously. This lifts and stretches the muscles, improving your blood circulation and, thus, provides deep tissue relief and releases tight muscles and joints, relieving tension and soreness.

    Tapping

This tapping stroke is generated when the rollers alternately push in and out from the backrest, simulating the popular "karate chop" massage technique. These alternating strokes are usually focused along the spine to stimulate both spinal muscles and spinal joint areas, relieving your bodily aches and stress.

    Rolling

This rolling stroke is generated when the rollers move up and down the backrest. The rolling motion produced helps you unwind and detoxify.

    Pressing

This pressing stroke is generated when the rollers push forward which are usually used to target on specific areas of the body to work on your stiff and tight muscles.

    Vibration

This vibrating stroke is generated when the rollers move back and forth producing vibration to help in targeting a certain area in the body like stimulating your digestion, circulation, metabolism and lymphatic flow.

Massage Chair: Its Benefits and Things to Bear In Mind

Massages have long since been recognized, even since ancient and medieval times, to enhance bodily function, aid in the healing process, and promote relaxation and well-being.

In this fast paced, increasingly stressful, anxious times, a good massage has become a great means to relieve tension and back pain. Unfortunately, in today's hard-charging, fast-paced environment, a therapeutic massage is not always convenient or available. Luckily, an electronic substitute is now also available that may enable one to experience some of the benefits of the human touch from the comforts of their own home, the massage chair.

Many thought of massage chairs as a luxury item. Though, a massage chair is certainly not a necessity for everyday living, or for relieving back pain and neck pain, for some, there are benefits that a massage chair brings that may outweigh the price.

Though both good hands-on massage and massage chair can help in alleviating back pain and provide relaxation, the portability of the massage chair, the absence of the need for person-to-person interaction, getting a massage in the privacy of home, along with convenience and time efficiency, are the main reasons why some people prefer a massage chair as a potential means to ease their back pain.

    benefits of massage chairs

According to a comprehensive research, data revealed that there are three central reasons why massage chair is beneficial.

First, a massage chair like those massage chairs in Sydney can improve blood flows. The manipulation of the muscles during a massage can help to dilate the blood vessels throughout your body, which can result in increased blood flow. The increase in blood flow can then facilitate the circulation and absorption of nutritional elements and increase nourishment and fluid exchange between those muscles and tissues, which in turn revitalizes the massaged area.

A chair massage can also increase flexibility. The kneading and stretching action of the chairs help loosen tight and strained muscles. This then allows muscles to relax as well.

Finally, a chair massage also increases the release of happy hormones (endorphins). The benefit of relaxation massage stimulates the release of the body's feel-good chemicals that run through the body called endorphins. The increase in endorphin levels has been correlated with quicker recovery, reduced pain and levels of stress and anxiety and leveling emotions out.

Though, in general, any type of massage is non-invasive and considered very low risk. However, there are health factors to consider before using a massage chair such as if you have an infectious disease, rashes, unhealed or open wound; undergone any surgery just recently; recent fracture or any broken bone; circulatory ailments and recent chemotherapy or other radiation therapy. Since the chairs work to knead the soft tissues and muscles, this might cause further irritations or further pain when on the affected parts.
